Tyra's hairing out

Tyra Banks recently revealed her real hair to the ecstatic audience of her TV show. It was the first time in decades that she came out in public without hairpieces. She’s been wearing hair wigs, weaves and extensions since the age of 17 which led some people to believe that she had no real hair left. This show was intended to prove that Tyra wasn’t bald.

What’s so interesting about this is not to see Tyra’s real hair. It’s more the excitation generated by the fact that a black woman is showing her real hair on national television. Like many black women, Tyra’s hair is most often hidden under extensions, weaves and wigs. Showing a black woman’s real hair is so exceptional that it creates an event that can attract millions of tv viewers. That’s why she showed her hair on a highly strategic prime time television slot: the season premiere of her show. Oprah Winfrey also recently created a buzz when she allowed a man to run his hands through her real hair on television!
